Happy New Year!!

Christmas is over and the new year is just beginning-hopefully though this year I can keep my new years resolution.....

~~~OF JUGGLING MY TIME BETTER~~~
I mean we're all guilty of that right? But more  importantly mine is to jump start my love of upcycling once more!
Just to kick the year off with a bang  I have decided my bedroom is in need of some kind of eco-touch, so I have decided to create a wonderful pallet bed!
Here are some of the ideas I have come across while browsing the web:
Top 10 DIY Gifts For Him this Christmas!
Now we all know men are difficult creatures- I mean who really knows what to get him for Christmas when he has everything he needs and he 'doesn't want anything'.
I face this issue year after year and frankly I'm tired of it! So here are my top 10 DIY gifts I've found for men this Christmas:
10. Cards against humanity
http://cardsagainsthumanity.com
This game is hilarious and he (and you) will spend hours giggling with it! It's under a Creative Commons license so you could easily get your hands on some decent card stock and print your own! Maybe you even want to make a little bag or box for him to keep it in? Either way you can't go wrong!
9. Couples coupons.
Now I'm not such a fan of this myself but I feel like if I have my boyfriend a free win of an argument for Christmas, he would be just as happy as if I got him the new xbox1 and it's about one thousandth of the cost! Now you could just handwrite or print your vouchers onto pretty paper or you could create a little coupon book- really the possibilities are endless! I put a little item with each coupon for example a lolly with a free date coupon and homemade massage oil for the neck and back rub coupon etc.
8. A personalised mug.
Now I know these are a little out of fashion but coffee is always in fashion! So why not cheap out on a mug and then buy him some of that exquisite coffee he loves, he not only gets something to satisfy his palate but you're also showing him you care and know what he likes with the personalised mug!
7. Beard oil.
Beards are currently all the rage! And for the foreseeable future aren't going anywhere! So why not treat your man to some pampering by making your own beard oil? Check out this website for a fab recipe: http://www.artofmanliness.com/2014/09/09/diy-beard-oil/
6. Food.
We all know a way to a mans heart is through his stomach so why not make him his favourite cookies (provided you can do as well as his mum!).
5. Notebooks.
Super easy to make and the sky's the limit as far as design goes!!!! If he's a writer or an artist chances are he will always need a notebook on hand- and why not one made especially by you?
4. Voodoo doll keychain.
Now making a voodoo doll isn't everyone's cup of tea but what would he say if you gave him a little version of himself? Well, he could be really impressed or really freaked out, but either way you'll know if you share the same sense if humour!
3. Car scent.
I know- cars are cars they are machines that get you from a to b. But for some reason men see this profound beauty in them that most women don't understand. And if you tried to give him car seats or pretty much anything massive for his car you would be thrown out in an instant! At least with this gift it's relatively small and he won't think you're trying to take over his car!
2. Do something from the heart.
Deep down boys are delicate sensitive beings and they love a little TLC every now and then! If your man is a muso why not compose or write a song for him? Or even a open and have it framed? Or if your strength lies in art why not paint him a picture or create a sculpture? No matter what you do he is sure to love it!
1. Soundwave gifts.
Now I may just be a sucker for this because I only just discovered it but I think there's nothing more special than having an item which shows the soundwave of a persons voice saying something to you. And no one else necessarily knows what it means! This gift is so quick and easy to make! Check out my blog entry 'I like the look of my voice' for more details on that one!
Well there you have it! My favourite DIY gift ideas for men for Christmas! Happy crafting!
I love the look of my own voice!
Aaaaaaand I'm back!
The past 6 months have been absolutely insanity with work, uni and I simply haven't had time to sit let alone let myself run wild with craftiness!
Realising that it's so close to Christmas and I completely forgot I hadn't done any Christmas shipping freaked me out just a tad! So I turned to one of my faithful websites- called Shapeways. On Shapeways you can design and create your own 3D print job- which I think is pretty awesome!
www.shapeways.com
Anyway I absolutely fell IN LOVE with this idea- you record your voice saying something and use the sound wave picture as art!
So using this idea I created a music book for my incredibly talented boyfriend (I'm only able to say this because he doesn't read this and his head won't inflate). And on the cover I drew the shape of my own voice saying 'I believe in you' on the cover.
Super cool or what!
If you're wondering where you can get such an image of your own voice- download audacity for free- it's a recording software so as long as your computer has a mic you should be right! Then I just used snipping tool and created a picture and then a template to put on the front of the book!
Love to see your creations!
RING PULLS! RING PULLS! RING PULLS!
Thats right! Those little things on the top of cans you normally just think are in the way can be used as a fashion statement too!
What if I told you that your next handbag could be absolutely rubbish? Not in the 'it's really crap' way but in the way that it is literally made from rubbish.
Well here's your chance! KRAP makes all kinds of handbags however ring pull purses are normally the fav (especially to touch!).
Pictures below... In the next few weeks I'll post a DIY!
HELLO WORLD!
First blog! Wow!
I thought I would mention a bit about myself and what will be written on this blog, I am the artist and pretty much everything behind the business 'KRAP' or Kathryn's Recycled Art Projects. Yes, I make fashionable and homeware items from rubbish! What rubbish I hear you asking? Pretty much anything I can get my hands on!
For a while I was one of those people who just thought, 'Oh I'll put my rubbish in the bin and it will disappear forever, maybe end up on another earth light years away'. Then I realised how stupid that was and asked myself: 'Why do we throw things out when they are perfectly usable?'
And that is what I call on all of you to think-before you throw things out carelessly, think to yourself-does this have a better use?
Watch this space! I'll be posting more images and inspiration for DIY  projects and more!
Until next time,
